The Sixties Radical

Evil fears things of small beginnings. Besides Eve’s two sons Cain and Able she had a third son Seth. Seth’s son Enoch decided to follow a G-d’s way of doing things. He lived a righteous life and Enoch was rewarded greatly from HaShem.

Thus Enoch serves as a good example of how to combine a G-dly way of life with the all his earthly activities. Enoch is a living and breathing example of living Torah principles.

This is what I strive to do on a daily basis. Somedays I succeed while other days I don’t yet in the end I repent for my mistakes, ask G-d to forgive me and turn away from my evil ways and run to back G-d’s way of doing things The Torah.

In addition to his sons Cain and Abel, Adam and Eve had a third son, Seth. One of Seth’s fifth-generation descendants was Enoch, who resisted the degeneration into which the rest of humanity was sinking, and lived a righteous life.

Enoch walked with G‑d. Genesis 5:22

Enoch was a shoemaker, yet, because of his holiness, his mundane occupation did not distract him from his service of G‑d. On the contrary, we are taught that with every stitch he brought about a further degree of harmony within the spiritual spheres.

We, too, on our own level, can follow in Enoch’s footsteps: We can so infuse our earthly activities with holy intentions that can positively influence the heavens.1 Hitva’aduyot 5749, vol. 1, p. 247
