The Sixties Radical-Azriel Joseph

“There came a day, and Joseph went to do his work . . .”
Genesis 39:11

Joseph went to review his accounting books.
—Targum Onkelos

Joseph was a soul from the World of Atzilut—a divine world of pure light entirely beyond any physical or spiritual reality. A world one with its Emanator.

For Joseph, even as he lived within a body within this world, there was no world, because the light of his soul shone so brightly, nothing of this world could exist.

And yet, here Joseph is going to do his work, to review his accounting books.

It is one thing to be beyond the world. But to be so far beyond and yet occupied with it, both at once—that is something absolutely wondrous!
