Our sages teach us that Rachel wanted to be buried in Bethlehem instead of Hebron. She saw the Jewish people would be kicked out of Israel after the destruction of the First Temple, so Rachel cried out to G-d so she would be buried in Bethlehem. G-d agreed.
There is more to this than meets eye.
So, let’s ask the question who is Rachel? She is the mother of Joseph and Benjamin. Rachel died after giving birth to Benjamin.
Let’s dig deeper. Joseph was thrown into the well by his brothers. Then Joseph’s brothers sold him into slavery. Joseph eventually wound up in Egypt to become the second most powerful man in Egypt.
This act intended for evil set in motion G-d’s plan for us Jews to receive the Torah at the Mountain of G-d.
Without this act of throwing Joseph into the well by his brothers there would be no Moshe. There would be no Torah. There would be no Mountain of G-d. The Davidic dynasty would not be established.
We would not be led into the Promised Land. We Jews would not be set aside for the service of G-d.
So, what am I saying. Rachel’s birth of Joseph directly led to the redemption of Judah, the bringing of us Jews to Egypt, the birth of Moshe, the liberation of us Jews from Egypt, the giving of the Torah at Mount Sinai, the establishment of the Davidic dynasty that resulted in the birth of Yeshua in Bethlehem.
This is the logic of G-d.
The mother of Joseph Rachel was buried in the same city that gave birth to Yeshua the Jewish Messiah.
This is why G-d agreed to grant Rachel’s wish to be buried in Bethlehem.
